Do you have news to share?
Help with sharing your research
McMaster’s media relations team would be pleased to help publicize and share your newsworthy research with a wide audience. We work directly with our researchers to draft a media release or feature story which can be distributed to the local, national and international media depending on the nature of the discovery.
We assess each story individually which can take many forms: a press release, a pitch to a specific journalist, a feature story for our internal website, Q & A, or perhaps promotion through our social media channels.
Here are some questions to consider before your interview with a member of the media relations team:
- What problem are you trying to solve?
- How does your research impact the average person?
- How would you explain your research to a lay audience without technical jargon (a non-scientist friend, for example?
- Did you reach your conclusion/findings in some novel manner?
- What are the next steps?
What multimedia elements can you provide:
- Do you have high resolution photos from the lab or field?
- Do you have any video footage that might be useful?
- Do you have any graphics or animation that might help tell your story?
