Experts available to comment on COVID-19

As respiratory illness cases increase through the fall season, McMaster has several experts able to comment on various aspects the COVID-19 pandemic, influenza and RSV.

Matthew Miller studies influenza viruses and can comment on how COVID-19 is mutating, how it will impact us going forward and He’s the executive director of the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research, an associate professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Science and is part of a team that has developed an inhaled COVID-19 vaccine that targets three parts of the virus and should be more effective against variants.

Immunologist Dawn Bowdish can explain how the immune system and vaccinations work to fight COVID-19. She is a professor in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine and can comment on waning vaccine protection, booster doses and the impact of COVID-19 on older and immunocompromised populations.

Manali Mukherjee is currently studying patients with long COVID, a syndrome which she herself has been dealing with. She is an immunologist and assistant professor in the Division of Respirology, Department of Medicine.
