U.S. election
The 2024 U.S. presidential race has been anything but ordinary. McMaster experts can offer insight into the American political landscape, Canada-U.S. relations and the cultural shifts and impacts we’ve seen throughout this election cycle.
- Don Abelson is Academic Director of the Wilson College of Leadership and Civic Engagement and a political science professor. He is an expert on American politics, Canada-U.S. relations and how that relationship could change based on election results. abelsond@mcmaster.ca
- Jordan Foster is a research fellow at the DeGroote School of Business. His research lies at the intersection of culture, new media and inequality. He can comment on the media’s coverage of the election, the role that celebrities play in shaping dialogue around politics and the increasing polarization in our political landscape. fostej30@mcmaster.ca
Federal and provincial elections
Canada’s next election is currently scheduled for October 2025, though it seems increasingly likely we are headed to the polls early. McMaster experts can shed light on political trends, campaign strategies, and the future of Justin Trudeau.
- Andrea Lawlor is an associate professor in the Department of Political Science. She specializes in the study of Canadian public policy, public opinion, as well as administrative and election law, including third party regulation in Canadian federal elections. lawlor@mcmaster.ca
- Professor Karen Bird is an expert on questions of political representation, electoral systems as well as ethnic and gender diversity in candidates and parliament. She has also studied how candidates communicate their identities and how voters respond. kbird@mcmaster.ca
